Dream Debut For Wirtz As Leverkusen Thump Dire Feyenoord
Florian Wirtz produced a stunning performance on his senior debut as Bayer Leverkusen ran riot against 10-man Feyenoord in the Europa League on Thursday
The 17-year-old midfielder scored one and set up another as Leverkusen eased to a 4-1 victory in their Group G opener in Rotterdam.
Wirtz became Leverkusen's youngest ever goalscorer in Europe when he fired them ahead after just 12 minutes, slotting home after a fine run from Karim Bellarabi.
The visitors doubled their lead shortly before half-time when Leon Bailey finished off another flowing move by rounding goalkeeper Justin Bijlow.
Feyenoord's hopes of a comeback were dealt a major blow when Marcos Senesi was sent off early in the second half for a rash challenge on Wirtz.
Kai Havertz made it 3-0 with a penalty in the 65th minute after Bailey had been brought down, before Wirtz turned provider for Julian Baumgartlinger to wrap up the scoring late on.
Bryan Linssen pulled a goal back for Feyenoord in stoppage time, but it was scant consolation for the Dutch side.
Leverkusen are now top of Group G with a one-point advantage over Hapoel Beer-Sheva, who beat Celtic 2-1 in the other match.
