James David Vance, better known as J.D. Vance, is an American politician who has served as the junior United States senator from Ohio since 2023. Vance gained national recognition after Donald Trump endorsed him for vice president in 2016.
Family and Education
Vance was born James Donald Bowman in Middletown, Ohio, in 1984. He later changed his name to J.D. Vance in honor of his maternal grandfather. Vance attended Yale Law School, where he met his wife, Usha.
Early Career
After graduating from law school, Vance worked as a venture capitalist before joining the Marines. He served for six months in Iraq before being honorably discharged. Vance then founded a non-profit organization focused on helping veterans transition to civilian life.
Political Career
