Portugal Move Closer To World Cup With 3-1 Win
Diogo Jota Scores Twice As Portugal Edge Past Turkey
Portugal kept their hopes of reaching the 2022 World Cup alive with a 3-1 win over Turkey in their UEFA World Cup play-off semi-final in Porto on Thursday.
Diogo Jota opened the scoring for Portugal in the 15th minute, but Burak Yilmaz equalised for Turkey from the penalty spot just before the half-hour mark.
Portugal regained the lead in the 42nd minute through Matheus Nunes, and Jota added his second of the night in the 65th minute to seal the win.
The result means that Portugal will now face North Macedonia in the play-off final on Tuesday, with a place at the World Cup in Qatar at stake.
Portugal were forced to survive a late burst of Turkey pressure in the closing stages, but they held on to secure the victory.
