Aston Villa Claim Champions League Spot With Thrilling Win Over Liverpool

Aston Villa claim Champion's League spot with thrilling win over Liverpool

Match Report

Aston Villa have secured a place in the Champions League for the first time in over 40 years after a thrilling 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Villa Park on Saturday.

Goals from Duran Quansah and Youri Tielemans proved to be enough for Villa to overcome a resilient Liverpool side, who had taken an early lead through Mohamed Salah.

The result means that Villa finish the season in fourth place in the Premier League, while Liverpool must now settle for a place in the Europa League.

It was a night of high drama at Villa Park, with both teams creating a number of chances throughout the match.

Liverpool took the lead after just 10 minutes when Salah latched onto a through ball from Trent Alexander-Arnold and slotted the ball past Emiliano Martinez.

Villa responded well to going behind and were level just 10 minutes later when Quansah headed home a cross from John McGinn.

The home side continued to press for the winner and were rewarded in the 65th minute when Tielemans curled a brilliant effort into the top corner of the net.

Liverpool pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages but could not find a way past a resolute Villa defence.

The victory was a famous one for Villa and their manager, Unai Emery.

It is the first time that the club have qualified for the Champions League since 1982 and it is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone at the club.
